Celebrating Pride Month at StrongHer
We're proud of all of our members 365 days a year, and to celebrate Pride Month 2022, we're hosting a StrongHer silent disco and strength training workout like you've never seen before! Think of it as a warm-up to the Pride London event. We'll be shimmying our way through Bethnal Green and East London, doing two short workouts. We'll finish at the space for a final workout (think Strong/Mission!) and then celebrate with drinks from our partners. It's been two years since the last Pride march was able to take place due to COVID, so we're excited to be out there, loud and proud, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the UK.
Why is Pride Month important to StrongHer?
It's a time for us to celebrate, support, and shout as loud as we can for our LGBTQ+ members and Strongherd. That's what we call our community. It's a stronghold of about 400 members, both in-studio and online, and everyone is encouraged to be themselves unapologetically. Not just encouraged, but celebrated! We know that when people don't feel comfortable being themselves, it presents problems. According to Stonewall, one in eight LGBT people (12%) avoid going to the gym or participating in sports groups because of fear of discrimination and harassment. That is a statistic that we want to help change.
Creating a safe space for anyone to train and feel happy with who they are.
We want everyone who walks through our studio doors to feel welcome, regardless of background, religion, gym experience, sexual orientation, or who they love. Co-Founder Sam says, "It doesn't mean that you have to walk through the door wearing a Pride flag and shouting how you identify! But we know that working out can be tough enough without feeling that you must hold back part of who you are in fear of judgement."
Around 40% of our StrongHerd identify as LGBTQ+ and non-binary. To ensure that all our members feel included, we're careful not to misgender people during their time in the studio, and are continuously working with our team to maintain inclusive dialogue throughout the studio & online.
Additionally, we partner and support local and national LGBTQ+ charities important to our members and will ALWAYS be diverse employers, as we understand how crucial it is that there is representation across the business.
For our Pride Month event, we are supporting two charities: Galop -Supporting LBGT people who have experienced abuse and violence Queer Kilos -a group strength training for LGBTQIA+ women & non-binary folks.
