Top tips for setting your fitness goals

Fitness goals are a tricky matter. It’s no secret we’ve been conditioned to think about them through the lens of weight loss, particularly fat loss. And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to achieve this, there’s a lot more to fitness goals! Think about getting strongher, faster, more flexible… the list goes on. So we had a quick chat with our coaches and asked them what their top tips were on setting kick-ass fitness goals like a pro!

Track your progress

Picture this: you start your fitness journey, and in a few weeks, you're nailing your workouts like a boss. But here's the thing, if you don't track your progress, how would you know *for sure* that you are making any, at all? So, keep a record of your gains, your PB’s - personal best), and your "I crushed it" moments. It's an ego boost and a reality check, all rolled into one! Oh, and one last thing - if you menstruate, there’ll be some phases of the month where you’ll be strongher, and some phases where you should focus more on recovery. If you want all the details about how to train around your menstrual cycle - have a look here!

Get S.M.A.R.T. about it

Oh,queeeeen, setting vague goals is like shooting arrows in the dark - you won't hit anything! Instead, be S.M.A.R.T. about it. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals will set you up for success. Want to deadlift your body weight by the end of the year? Get it, girl! Make your goals crystal clear and even more importantly, ask yourself why you want to achieve them. And be honest with your answers. Having a sense of purpose is what will get your ass to the gym when you really don’t feel like it.

Make it a date - with yourself

Here's the deal - your fitness goals are like hot dates. Schedule them, pop them into your calendar, set a reminder … whatever works for you, but DO make a plan. Remember, commitment and consistency are key to achieving your goals in the gym. So plan those dates with yourself BEFORE the rest of your week fills up, that way, there’s less chance of you getting too busy and not being able to make it

Use social media as inspo, not the single source of truth

Sure, it's tempting to look at fitness influencers on social media and try to mimic their routines. But you don’t need us to tell you social media is not real life. It’s not that we are against taking inspo from TikTok - we just want you to take it with a pinch of salt, and always run a reality check. Does this new fancy exercise that is supposed to ‘active and grow your glutes’ actually make sense? Do you really need to be waking up at 5 am to go to the gym? Create a fitness plan that suits your unique needs, preferences, and lifestyle. And if you need help with that - why not have a chat with one of our lovely PTs?

Fuel Up

Now, let's talk about food - the fuel that powers your workouts and keeps you feeling fierce. Don't skimp on nourishing your body! Opt for a balanced diet that's packed with all the good stuff - protein, veggies, healthy fats, and some cheeky treats now and then.

Embrace the journey

We get it; you want those gains to show up like ASAP. But guess what? Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your goddess body. Embrace the journey, cherish every step, and trust the process.

Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate!

And finally, the secret sauce: celebrate every victory - big or small. Crushed that set of squats? Treat yourself to a victory dance! Achieved your first pull-up? Tell all your mates about it! Celebrate each milestone like the queen you are because you're slaying it, one rep at a time!

So, there you have it, our top tips to help you set your fitness goals with sass and style. Track your progress, be S.M.A.R.T. about your goals, and treat every workout like a hot date. Remember, your fitness journey and fitness goals are about YOU, and you only. We'll be cheering you on every step of the way. 💪
